(part of the InLOC Information Model > InLOC properties)
The type property
This is one of InLOC's direct properties.
| Property name: | type |
|---|---|
| URI: | http://purl.org/net/inloc/type |
| Label: | association type |
| Definition: | the type of relationship or compound property |
| Property of: | LOCassociation |
| Value range | one of the following URIs |
Type considered alternatively as a property of scheme
In certain circumstances, it is possible to regard type as a property of scheme, rather than LOCassociation. This variation of the information model is possible only if, within any given information set, all LOCassociations with the same scheme.id have the same type.
This is done for one version (the "optimised" one) of the RDF binding.
Interpretation
Types of LOC association
The meaning of a LOCassociation depends on its type.
| The type ... | ... indicates that the LOCassociation ... |
|---|---|
| LOCrel | relates two LOC instances, either of which could be a LOCstructure or a LOCdefinition |
| by | relates the subject LOC to an agent as object (e.g. author) |
| category | classifies the subject LOC (similarly to Atom category) |
| credit | expresses the credit value of the subject LOC within a stated scheme (see CWA 16077) |
| level | expresses the level of the subject LOC within a stated scheme (as attributed – for level definition use LOCrel) |
| topic | gives a topic of the subject LOC |
Meaning of LOC association parts
The type also determines the meaning of the remaining parts of the LOCassociation, as follows.
| type | subject | scheme | object | number |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LOCrel | relation subject | level relationships | relation object | level number: greater → more skill or competence |
| LOCrel | relation subject | other relationships | relation object | not defined |
| by | property subject | specific property (see compound properties) |
agent URI and name (person or organisation) |
not defined |
| category | property subject | scheme (as Atom) |
term and label (as Atom) |

| credit | property subject | credit scheme | credit level | credit value (additive within a given scheme) |
| level | property subject | level scheme | actual level | level number: greater → more skill or competence |
| topic | property subject | topic taxonomy / scheme / catalogue |
